This course introduces students to the ancient world using The Story of the World: History for the Classical Child, Volume 1: Ancient Times. Together we will travel from the earliest nomads through the fall of the Roman Empire, discovering how people lived, worked, and told their stories thousands of years ago. Each week, students will read three chapters at home and prepare reading comprehension questions that check their understanding and spark curiosity about the past.
In class, students will share their answers, participate in lively discussions, and practice debating historical ideas in a respectful way. They will be encouraged to make connections between ancient civilizations and the world they live in today, strengthening both critical thinking and communication skills. By blending reading, writing, and conversation, the course builds a foundation in history while also reinforcing key skills in literacy and analysis.
