ICA Summer Camp: Welcome to all children ages 6 to 16 years old
For over 20 years, our mission has been to foster an environment of learning and fun!
Sample Schedule
9:00 AM-9:30 AM: Exercise Outdoors
Coaches and students walk to the nearby park, where they warm up before their chess lessons with fun games outside.
9:30 AM-10:20 AM: Chess Lesson (Part I: Puzzle/Concepts)
Coaches guide students through a new strategy or concept, enhancing their chess skills and understanding with a lesson calibrated towards their level of experience. Puzzles and exercises are utilized to help students practice the ideas they learn.
10:20 AM-10:30 AM: Snack Break
10:30 AM-11:20 AM: Chess Lesson (Part 1I: Analysis)
Coaches analyze select chess games to illustrate important techniques and crucial tactical patterns, improving students' chess abilities and critical thinking skills. Tournament games played by students are often reviewed to help them learn from their mistakes.
11:30 AM-12:30 PM: Outside Sports
Counselors and campers return to the park for more outdoor fun and exercise! Our most popular activities include dodgeball, soccer and tag.
12:30 PM - 1 PM: Lunch (bring your own!)
1:00 PM-3:00 PM: Tournament, Simuls, Art and Math classes
Campers compete in a week-long chess tournament against campers of similar skill levels. Following the completion of their tournament game, students can participate in more chess related activities, including simuls against coaches and problem solving competitions, or engage in extracurricular activities, such as art and math.
3:00 PM - 5 PM: Art, Math, Music and Chess classes
Students are divided by age/grade level and rotate between math, art and music classes. Campers are able to participate in a variety of strategy-based board games and chess related activities as well!
