Using the Beast Academy book and the Art of Problem Solving Textbook, this class will focus heavily on solving pre algebra and algebra concepts that show up in 6th grade classes. We will mostly focus on the first half of the AoPS book that will cover a lot of preliminary algebra, working with absolute values/negative numbers, and will allow the students to understand how to solve problems that show up in Olympiad format.
We will also work through many MOEMS (Math Olympiad for Elementary and Middle School) practice exams. This class will cover algebraic equations and expressions, ratios, fractions/percentages, speeds, word problems and a few other topics.
Homework will be required for this course and will be assigned every few weeks as a check for the students. Additionally, the classwork and class notes will be attached with each week’s homework, as a way for students to have something to look back on for their week’s work
